Comment on Why Online Poker Is Dying by thepokercapitalist /online-poker-dying/#comment-6545 Tue, 10 Mar 2015 08:52:18 +0000 /?p=1301#comment-6545 Tony,

Thanks for the comment. You are of course correct. The initial hype has died down, but card rooms are making it worse through their actions. It would certainly make it challenging for pros if that was the environment. Having said that for the past few years I think card rooms have focused too much on regulars and not enough on the recreational players. Going forward for the long term sustainability of the industry it is IMO best for a more recreational friendly model to be adopted.

Comment on Why Online Poker Is Dying by Tony /online-poker-dying/#comment-6544 Tue, 10 Mar 2015 07:41:08 +0000 /?p=1301#comment-6544 Uh…no. Banning HUDs, getting rid of rakeback, and one table max? Sure it makes it fish-friendly but it also makes it impossible for regs to make a living. The root of the problem is that the initial hype about online poker has died down. Old fish are no longer interested and there’s not enough new fish that are interested. The only solution I see is for Pokerstars to look at the long-term picture and reduce the rake.

Comment on PokerStars Rake Increase & A Death Spiral? by thepokercapitalist /pokerstars-rake-increase-death-spiral/#comment-6443 Mon, 08 Dec 2014 19:52:35 +0000 /?p=1357#comment-6443 I’ve been a little bit distracted the last couple of weeks so not keeping up with everything. It seems that Amaya knows how to leverage strong cash flows and poker companies provide strong cash flow. The Stars deal has been extremely effective for Amaya so a deal with Party at a reasonable price probably makes sense.

I broadly agree. According to the recent news Amaya made a bid for BwinParty. Do you have any thoughts on this topic?

Comment on Daniel Colman Controversy Following One Drop by thepokercapitalist /daniel-colman-controversy-following-one-drop/#comment-6388 Wed, 09 Jul 2014 08:16:04 +0000 /?p=1044#comment-6388 Willian, The poker industry is certainly facing its fair share of challenges. I think that if advertising dollars were added to player pools the game would become much more popular. However, what is “good for the game” and what is good for industry operators may not always be exactly the same thing. I think it is difficult for them to sacrifice profits today in the hope of a better bottom line in the future.

Comment on Daniel Colman Controversy Following One Drop by Willian /daniel-colman-controversy-following-one-drop/#comment-6387 Wed, 09 Jul 2014 04:12:49 +0000 /?p=1044#comment-6387 Nice article Paul. The first point touched by Daniel is quite important actually. Mybe if the poker industry somehow found a way to inject more money in the tourneys the game could get another big boo. Maybe something like that for the cash games were the rake would be lowered or even remuved and the operators would gain from advertisement.

Comment on Exploitive No Limit Holdem by Paul Ratchford by thepokercapitalist /product/experts-insight-become-winning-poker-professional/#comment-6358 Thu, 19 Jun 2014 01:50:47 +0000 /?post_type=product&p=420#comment-6358 I would say the book is highly applicable to live poker. I don’t believe in trying to teach a “system” for beating any particular game (6-max, FR, HU, online, live etc). IMO that is not very helpful for students in the long term. What is more important is to learn a way of thinking about the game that applies to numerous situations and stake levels.

Having said all of that I expected the majority of my audience to be online players. As a result I use some online jargon and the examples I give are primarily from online games. Because I have played extensively live and online I talk a good bit about the differences between the two games and why I chose online despite preferring to play live.

Hope this helps
